Note:

Here at last for the first time, a Who singles collection without omissions, the correct mixes, all taken from the best possible sources. JWB send me the above-mentioned sources to work with and I must say the final result really pleases me. It's really a shame that the official Who camp has so little regard for authenticity and quality control; this collection seeks to remedy a (small) part of that.

As for the music, to me this is the most interesting period (well, I'll add 1969 too). Nearly all of the A-sides here are 5 out of 5 stars. Pete, John & Keith made it all sound so easily, yet no other group from this era had such an enormous sound with just bass, guitar and drums. Roger was a solid singer from day one, but he improved his range and style tremendously over just 5 years. It's hard to overstate just how important The Who's legacy is.
