Note:

Very proud to present what I believe is gonna be the definitive presentation of this precious material. No official release of this has yet occurred, nor does it seem likely that ABKCO is interested in doing one at this point.

All tracks have been sourced from the very best available sources; only lossless quality rips of all the transcription discs were used and we tried the find the lowest generation off-air material. My thanks once again to the unknown ripper of all these BBC 'Top of the tops' transcription discs. I have carefully remastered every track in my studio. Everything was done to bring the sound standard up-to-par to what would have been an official boxset.

We have included a PDF with all the radio sessions as documented by the BBC. A quick look tells us that almost nothing from 1964 has survived; only two songs are included here. To remedy this loss somewhat, I have added a compilation of various TV appearances which includes the early UK single A-sides that are missing among the BBC tracks and also the underappreciated last British single of the original group: 'Don't Bring Me Down'.

There's plenty of quality material from the remaining years left and putting it in order gives a clear glimpse into the band's development. The Animals were a consistently solid band with strong musical ideals, and always just a little bit out of place in the competitive music biz. But the world was not standing still and by 1966 they found their popularity was on the wane. Eric Burdon formed a new band with some ace-musicians and continued where the old band had left off, while gradually becoming more confident as a writer which resulted in excellent songs like 'San Franciscan Nights', 'Monterey' and especially 'When I Was Young'. Still, the band broke up without much ado in late 1968.

Enjoy!
