Note:

Here's another one in the series "never before on CD/Digital". This is a dedicated mono version that differs from the common stereo version (which was reissued too many times to mention). Although the stereo version admittedly has better fidelity, the mono version has more oomph and sounds more consistent overall. The reason why this never appeared on CD so far is probably because the mono mastertapes are MIA. The only two reissues so have far have been on vinyl-only and those appear to have been mastered from a vinyl source. This version here sounds much better than those and has all 6 single tracks in the best possible quality as well.

Though often maligned as a sin of one's youth by the band members and fans alike, this 1st album is actually a very solid effort. While very much of its time, Gabriel's song writing talent is already present in spades. And much to his credit, Jonathan King was fairly hands-off with the selection of repertoire on this long-player, allowing the band to follow their own musical course. Granted, not everything here is as adventurous and inventive as their later works but I think it is thoroughly enjoyable listen overall.
