How Mushrooms Affect Your Memory? All You need To Know

Mushrooms for Memory Improvement
Consuming mushrooms may lower the risk of mild cognitive impairment (M.C.I. ), a type of memory impairment that is often a precursor to Alzheimer's disease.

Researchers in Singapore examined data from 663 Chinese men and women over the age of 60. They documented diet information in one-on-one interviews, including questions on six types of regularly consumed mushrooms. They performed extensive structured interviews and employed mental acuity tests on a regular basis to assess cognitive ability.

After controlling for a variety of health, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors, they discovered that those who consumed one to two portions of mushrooms per week had a 43 percent lower risk of M.C.I. compared to those who consumed less than one five-ounce portion per week. People who ate more than two pieces had a 52% lower risk of dying. The study's findings were published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.

Although the exact cause is uncertain, mushrooms contain antioxidants that may reduce the development of amyloid beta and tau proteins in the brain, which are hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease.
